Vaccinations are a vital part of keeping your pet healthy and safe from serious diseases. We recommend that dogs receive vaccinations against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Canine cough. Vaccinations help your dog’s immune system fight off infections. It also helps contribute to herd immunity, protecting other pets in your community as well.
Puppies begin their vaccinations at 6 to 8 weeks of age, with their second vaccination between 10 to 12 weeks. Here at Wembley Vets, we understand that you want to take your puppy out as soon as possible. We also understand that early socialisation is very important for their future behaviour and mental health. This is why we also offer an early finish vaccination protocol from the age of 10 weeks. However, we still recommend a third puppy vaccination at 14 to 16 weeks (recommended by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association). We recommend yearly and triannual booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain your pet’s immunity and keep them safe. And with their vaccinations they also receive a full annual health examination.
Similar to puppies, kittens also need vaccinations. Starting from 6 to 8 weeks, 10 to 12 weeks and 14 to 16 weeks of age, with booster vaccinations each year. Indoor cats are recommended to have a a minimum protection for feline Herpes virus and Calicivirus (the common cat flu), and feline Panleukopenia. For those cats that live outdoors with a higher risk of being infected, we recommend vaccination for feline Leukaemia virus too.
